Everything is bigger in Texas. Even plumbing problems. Sure, you’re going to have issues anywhere you live, but there are certain plumbing challenges that are particularly troublesome here in the Lone Star State.
Since we’ve been serving the Amarillo area for over 50 years, we have seen (and resolved) it all. If you’ve experienced any of these common Texas plumbing problems, take it from us – you’re not alone.
Slab leaks
When there’s heavy rain or other extreme weather conditions, it can affect the slab that holds up your home. Even a small movement can cause an underground pipe to break or leak. When this happens, you’ll notice an increase in your water bill, extra moisture on your floor or walls, or a handful of either common signs. If you suspect a slab leak, it’s important to get it inspected and repaired as quickly as possible.
Hard water
The term “hard water” means there are high levels of certain minerals such as magnesium and calcium. While hard water isn’t unhealthy or dangerous, it can taste bad and slowly damage your home’s plumbing and appliances. Over time, mineral buildup can corrode pipes from the inside or shorten the service life of your laundry washer and water heater. The solution is to have your water tested. If the result is hard water, you can install a water softener system to remove the excess minerals.
Sewer line blocked by tree roots
We often have customers who are dealing with a slow drain or backed-up toilet. Once we get to the home and inspect the situation, we determine that the problem is actually a lot bigger – a blocked sewer line. In many cases, the cause is a tree root that grew into the sewer pipe below the ground. If ignored, this can lead to sewage backup into the home, which is a major health hazard. Only a thorough inspection will tell us whether the root can be removed and the pipe repaired, or the entire pipe needs to be replaced.
